ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Iyiola Awosika scored a goal and added an assist as Radford downed UNC Asheville 4-1 in Big South Conference men's soccer action at Greenwood Field Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (3-7-1, 1-2-0 BSC) trailed 2-0 in the second half but pulled to 2-1 on a goal from Colton Paschall in the 72nd minute. However, the Highlanders scored a goal two minutes later from Awosika and added another one from Camden Brown in the 83rd minute to seal their first victory over Asheville since the 2007 season.

Radford (5-3-2, 3-0-0 BSC) held a slight edge in shots at 14-12. The visitors out-shot the Dogs 7-6 in each half.

"We did some good things today but when Radford had a chance to score, they put the ball in the back of the net," stated Asheville coach Matt Kern. "Our guys just need to keep plugging away and keep working to get better. Radford is a good team that will win a lot of matches this season."

The Highlanders struck first in the first half when Luis Grande scored his second goal of the year. Grande picked up a deflection in front of the Asheville scored and pushed the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 RU lead at 19:20.

The Bulldogs nearly tied the match late in the first half. Off a corner kick, Asheville had two shots that nearly went into the game. Paschall had a header that was cleared away by a Highlander defender.

RU struck 37 seconds into the second half when Awosika sent a nice pass to Mike Handlin. Handlin connected from 10 yards at 45:37 to pad the Highlander lead to 2-0.

Asheville got on the board at 72:36. Radford was called for a foul and the Bulldogs were awarded a free kick from about 20 yards out. Paschall buried it into the far right corner of the net for his third goal of the season to cut the lead to 2-1. The junior midfielder has scored Asheville's last three goals.

But RU put the game away with two great goals, both on headers on impressive crosses. Anthony Payne fed Awosika for his fifth goal of the season at 74:53 to push the lead to 3-1. Brown finished the scoring on a superb cross from Bernardo Ulmo at 83:10.

UNC Asheville plays next at Big South Conference rival Coastal Carolina on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Radford plays at High Point on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
