CONWAY, S.C. - For the second time this year, the UNC Asheville men's soccer team fell in double overtime as Coastal Carolina scored one minute into the second OT period as the Chanticleers edged the Bulldogs, 1-0 in Big South Conference action Wednesday afternoon.
Pedro Reiberio of Coastal Carolina scored in the 101st minute off an assist from Justin Portillo to give the home team the overtime victory. Asheville also lost at ETSU in double overtime back on Sept. 25.
Coastal Carolina controlled much of the game and out-shot the Bulldogs 10-4 in the opening half. They had 14-4 advantage midway through the second half before Asheville rallied. The match went into overtime and the Bulldogs dominated the first overtime period as they out-shot the home team, 4-1.
CCU finished with a 17-11 shot advantage but only had three shots in the final 30 minutes. Bulldog goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen made seven saves.
Bryan Bartels had three shots for Asheville with two on target.
The Bulldogs play next at Big South leader High Point Saturday night starting at 7 p.m.
