ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will try to snap a frustrating five-game losing streak on Wednesday in the Bulldogs final home game of the season. Asheville hosts Big South foe Winthrop at Greenwood Field starting at 3 p.m.

Both teams are trying to get some momentum to next week's Big South Conference Tournament at High Point. The Bulldogs sport a 3-11-1 overall record and 1-5 mark in the Big South. Winthrop stands at 5-10-1 and 3-4-0.

Asheville fell on Saturday to non-conference foe Wofford, 2-0 at home. The Bulldogs fired 13 shots and had opportunities but just couldn't score.

"We battled, played hard but once again just couldn't get the ball into the back of the net," stated first-year coach Matt Kern. "We're playing some good soccer and doing some nice things but we need to score some goals."

It's been a tough year for the Eagles who are usually one of the top teams in the Big South and have won a lot of championships under veteran head coach Rich Posipanko.

"Winthrop has also lost a lot of close matches," commented Kern. "They're a good team and they've just been a little unlucky this year.  I'm sure they'll make some noise in next week's tournament."

Asheville finishes up the regular season at Liberty on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. The Bulldogs will then head to High Point for next weekend's (Nov. 11-13) Big South Conference Tournament.
