DAVIDSON, N.C. – Emil Gonsalvez scored in the 81st minute to lead UNC Asheville to a 1-0 exhibition win over homestanding Davidson Saturday night.

 

The teams played a 15-minute half after the exhbition match with each team using its back-ups. The Wildcats won that half, 2-1.

 

The regular match was scoreless until Bobby Castro fed Gonsalvez who scored on a header at 80:28 to give the Bulldogs the lead.

 

 

"We defended well in the defensive third, and had good moments of possession in the final third," said head coach Matt Kern. "There are still some things we need to work on but this is a great result against a team that's going to win a bunch of games this year."

 

Asheville has some time off before opening the regular season. The Bulldogs will open the 2013 season at UNC Greensboro on Friday, Aug. 30 before returning home to take on Brevard in the home opener on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m.
