ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team made its spring debut on Saturday and it was a victorious one as the Bulldogs blanked visiting Montreat 2-0 at Greenwood Field.

Asheville picked up goals from Trey Hemphill and Paul Egle to earn the win. Zak Davis made five saves in the match against the Cavaliers to earn the shutout.

Bulldog coach Matt Kern was pleased with Saturday's result.

"I was really proud of our progression this spring with our possession in the attacking half, and also our development into a pressing defensive team," stated Kern. "We scored two nice goals from Trey and Paul. Zak did a nice job in goal.

"There's still plenty of work to do but today was a nice start," added Kern.
