Editors Note: With the 2013-24 school year behind us, UNC Asheville's student-athletes will be providing us write-ups to allow everyone to get to know them a little better. Today we meet men’s soccer player Joey Cutting.
Joey Cutting is a rising senior on the men’s soccer team at UNC Asheville. Graduating in May of 2015, Joey is seeking a management degree with a concentration in Marketing. Hoping to one day have a career in athletics, marketing, entertainment, tourism, or hospitality, Joey plans to use what he has learned being a UNC Asheville student-athlete and apply it to the “real world.”
Being the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for the past year, Joey has loved being involved in all athletic affairs on campus. Since joining SAAC his freshman year, Joey has hoped to “enlighten the student-athlete experience and help UNC Asheville athletics become the best that they can be.” Outside of SAAC, he has been busy volunteering at Hall Fletcher Elementary, being a member of the Bulldog Athletic Association Board, and becoming a newly elected member into the Beta Gamma Sigma business honors society. His fondest SAAC memories were winning the school-wide homecoming competitions for 2013 and 2014, with his favorite moment being the one-of-a-kind SAAC lip-sync competition performance.
Joey chose UNC Asheville for many reasons, mainly being because “it just felt right.” It is close to Joey’s hometown of Waynesville, with ideal small classes, a fun environment, and the opportunity to network easily with others. He also wanted to become very involved on campus, and SAAC has been able to help him do that successfully. He hopes to volunteer more with local schools and young athletes, while hoping to host a campus-wide event to raise awareness for an honorable organization.
This summer, Joey is looking forward to being a Canopy Tour Guide at Navitat Canopy Adventures in nearby Barnardsville. He also is getting the opportunity to intern in Navitat’s marketing department, becoming the company’s first marketing intern ever! Joey is also thrilled to be selected to go to the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in Indianapolis in June. He was picked among 200 of the nation’s top-qualified student-athletes to attend this all-expenses-paid conference. Also, Joey will be attending the Big South SAAC leadership conference in Black Mountain in July.
Being his senior season, Joey has high hopes for his Bulldog soccer team. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see Joey Cutting play at Greenwood Field this upcoming fall! If you can’t make it to see one of his games, make sure to witness him singing karaoke around campus and in the community.
