ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Ten home matches at Greenwood Field plus hosting a tournament highlights the 2013 UNC Asheville men’s soccer schedule that was announced on Monday by head coach Matt Kern.

The Bulldogs play 19 regular-season matches plus an exhibition match at Davidson. Kern’s club hosts the Bulldog Invitational in mid-September as Asheville welcomes Georgia Southern, Howard and Radford to Greenwood Field for the tourney. In addition, the Bulldogs play non-conference matches against first-time opponents North Florida, Northern Kentucky and Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2013.

“We are really looking forward to the fall season after a very productive spring,” declared Kern. “Our non-conference schedule is a little change from years past with a few new teams in North Florida, Howard, Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Northern Kentucky.”

Asheville begins play with an exhibition match at Davidson on Aug. 17. The Bulldogs open the season at UNC Greensboro on Aug. 30 before returning home for their home opener against Brevard College on Sept. 1.

Kern’s club hits the road for three straight matches as Asheville travels to Appalachian State (Sept. 6), USC Upstate (Sept. 10) and North Florida (Sept. 14).

The Bulldogs return home to host the Asheville Invitational on Sept. 20 & 22. Asheville faces Howard (Sept. 20) and Georgia Southern (Sept. 22). Radford will also compete in the tourney and take on Georgia Southern and Howard.

Wisconsin-Green Bay makes its first visit to Greenwood Field on Oct. 1. The Blue & White open Big South Conference play on the road at Longwood (Oct. 5) before coming home to play three consecutive home games against league foes. Asheville entertains Presbyterian College (Oct. 9), High Point (Oct. 12) and Campbell (Oct. 19).

Two league matches on the road will see the Bulldogs play at Gardner-Webb (Oct. 23) and VMI (Oct. 26).

Asheville’s final two regular-season matches at Greenwood Field are against Northern Kentucky (Oct. 30) and perennial Big South power Coastal Carolina (Nov. 2). The Bulldogs finish the regular season at Winthrop (Nov. 6) and Radford (Nov. 9).

“The Big South continues grow as a soccer conference as the league has received two NCAA bids in each of the last two years,” stated Kern. “We are aiming for a finish in the top half of the league this season.”

The Big South Championships will take place from Nov. 12-17. Quarterfinal matches are scheduled to be on Nov. 12 at the top four seeds of the regular-season. The semifinals (Nov. 15) and championship (Nov. 17) will be held in Greensboro.
