ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville senior forward Bobby Castro is one of 11 student-athletes named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Men's Soccer Division I team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

This marks the second straight year that Castro has made the All-District 3 team. He will now be nominated for the national team that will be announced later in November.

The four-year starter is Asheville’s leading scorer this season with three goals, an assist for seven points. He has started and played in all 16 of the Bulldogs matches. The versatile player has played everywhere on the field this year with the exception of goalkeeper. He has served as a co-captain for two consecutive years.

The Cary, N.C. native is majoring in health and wellness and has a 3.80 GPA. He has been on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll for three straight years and six times has been selected to the Athletic Director's 3.0 & Above Club.

“I’m really proud of Bobby Castro,” stated Bulldog coach Matt Kern. “He is an outstanding young man and is the ultimate student-athlete.”

CoSIDA's 1800 members in the United States and Canada nominate players for Capital One Academic All-America® recognition.  To be eligible, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing, have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, and be a starter or key reserve on his or her team.

CoSIDA members vote on the all-district teams; then a national panel selects the Academic All-America squads from all first-team all-district choices.  District 3 includes all NCAA Division I schools in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
