ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will try and get back in the win column when the Bulldogs travel to Longwood Saturday afternoon for a 5 p.m. match with the Lancers.
Asheville (2-6-0) has lost five straight matches with three of those losses coming by one goal. However, the Bulldogs fell at home to Big South foe Gardner-Webb, 3-0 on Tuesday.
"We didn't play very well against Gardner-Webb on Tuesday," stated first-year Asheville coach Matt Kern. "We were on our heels the whole match. I was a little disappointed that we didn't handle some adversity that was thrown at us during the game. It's a long season but we need to start playing with a little more consistency."
The Lancers are 0-8-1 on the season but Kern believes that Longwood is much better than its record.
"Longwood has faced an extremely tough non-conference schedule," admitted Kern. "They've been in most of their matches and always play well at home. We better be ready to play on Saturday."
The Bulldogs have only been outscored 13-9 on the year...Bryan Bartels has the game-winning goal in both of Asheville's win this season...this will be the first of two trips to the state of Virginia for the Bulldogs as they'll play at Liberty on Nov. 6...Saturday's match is the final non-conference one of the year for Asheville as the Bulldogs play their final eight games against BSC foes.
