The Bulldogs (2-6-1) had trailed for most of the match. The Lancers had scored in the ninth minute on a goal from Zack Mahon to lead 1-0 and maintained that lead for most of the game.
Asheville goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen kept Longwood from getting more goals. He stopped nine shots, including six in the second half to keep the score 1-0.
Finally, the Bulldogs got the equalizer. On a corner kick, Conner Holzinger sent a ball into the box that Sides was able to knock into the goal to knot the match at 1-1. The goal came at 83:34. It was Sides first goal of the season. Holzinger picked up his team-leading fourth assist.
Asheville controlled both overtime periods as it out-shot Longwood, 4-1 but could not score.
The Lancers out-shot the Bulldogs 20-16 but Asheville had 10 corner kicks to six for the home team.
The Bulldogs get back into Big South Conference play on Tuesday night when they play at Presbyterian College at 7 p.m. Asheville returns home on Saturday (Oct. 9) when the Bulldogs host Big South rival Radford at 2 p.m.
