ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team is home on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Big South foe VMI at Greenwood Field starting at 2 p.m. Admission is free. Saturday's match will be video-streamed and can be seen for a small fee.

Asheville starts a much-needed three-game homestand with VMI on Saturday. The Bulldogs have played 13 matches this year and only three of them have been played at Greenwood Field. Matt Kern's club will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak Saturday when they face a Keydets team that posted an impressive BSC win on Wednesday. VMI won its first game of the year when it downed Radford, 3-0.

The Bulldogs (3-9-1, 1-4-0 BSC) have not played since a 3-0 defeat at High Point Saturday night. The Panthers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, and Asheville could not rally back.

"We ran into a buzz-saw at High Point Saturday night," commented Kern. "We knew High Point was good but they put it into an extra gear against us. Our guys did settle down in the second half and played better but the damage was done."

Asheville has won the last two meetings against the Keydets (1-9-1, 1-3-0 BSC) and both matches have been 2-1 victories as the Bulldogs have rallied in the second half for each victory. VMI struggled for much of the year before stunning Radford Wednesday at home.

"We've known all along that VMI was better than its record," declared Kern. "What a great win they had against Radford on Wednesday. VMI can score and has some good players. We've had a tough time with them over the years, and I expect another close match on Saturday."

Lassi Hurskainen has played every minute of every match this year in goal...he made 11 saves at High Point Saturday and stopped a penalty kick...Connor Holzinger is Asheville's leading scorer with seven points as he's scored one goal and had five assists...Colton Paschall has scored the Bulldogs last three goals...four of Asheville's last seven games have gone into overtime with a 1-2-1 record in those matches.
