Ten New Men's Soccer Players to Join Bulldog program in 2011

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville head men's soccer coach Matt Kern has announced the addition of 10 new players on the Bulldogs roster for the 2011 season.

The additions include nine freshmen and one transfer with three of the newcomers having Western North Carolina ties.

"I would like to thank our assistant coach, Joe Burnett, with helping assemble this group of incoming student-athletes," stated Kern. "We believe as though we have added some speed, personality, soccer intelligence, and technique to our returning group.  Every member of the class of 2015 is a very good student, and will represent UNC Asheville extremely well on the field, and in our community."

Here is a rundown of Asheville's incoming class.

Alex Chu, Defender, Charlotte, NC

Alex Chu joins the Bulldogs from Charlotte.  He played his soccer at South Mecklenburg High School under head coach Jim Lynch. Chu was named to the SW 4A All-Conference team and the All-Region team in his senior season. He also played for Charlie McGinty and the Charlotte Soccer Academy.  Chu was  active off the field as well, participating in Student Government, National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and was named the Senior Class Vice President.

Joey Cutting, Midfielder, Waynesville, NC

Joey Cutting is a local product from Tuscola High School.  He played under head coach Erik Melville and was the team MVP and Haywood County Player of the Year in 2010. Cutting was voted to the AAC All-Conference team and All Region WNC team his junior and senior seasons.  Off the field, Cutting is a member of the National Honor Society and won the Outstanding Principles of Business Award and the Excellent Spanish IV Student award in 2009.

Paul Egle, Forward, Asheville, NC

Paul Egle is a local product from T.C. Roberson and head coach Rob Wilcher. He was named Asheville Citizen-Times All-WNC Soccer Player of the Year in 2009.  Egle was also named to the NCSCA All Region and All State teams three out of four years of his high school career, once with a 3A school (2008) and twice with a 4A school (2009, 2010). He also played for Craig Conger and the North Mecklenburg U.S. Development Academy Team.  Off the field, Paul is a member of the French Club, Interact Club, and is a U.S. Soccer Federation Referee. 

AJ Iiames, Midfielder/Defender, Raleigh, NC

AJ Iiames attended Broughton High School. He played under head coach Israel Hernandez.  liames was named to the All Conference team in 2010 as he helped lead his team to a State Championship. He played his club soccer for Steve Armas and CASL Elite. Off the field, Iiames is a member of SAFE, KEY club, and United in Christ.  His older brother Ben plays soccer at Campbell University.

Dan Jackson, Goalkeeper, Chapel Hill, NC

Dan Jackson went to East Chapel Hill HS and played for head coach Zach Haines. He was an All Conference player his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. Jackson was an All- Region selection his junior and senior seasons. He played his club soccer for Jeff Negalha and the Triangle United 93 Gold team.  Off the pitch, Jackson is a member of the his high school's Spirit Club, a member of the National Achievers Society, and part of the team that won the 2008 Academic Award.

Inaki Uriz, Defender/Midfielder, Durham, NC

Inaki Urizi played for Steve Turner at Jordan High School. He was one of the captains that helped lead the school to the 4-A state championship last fall. As a member of the 92 Triangle Futbol Club Navy team, under Michael Brady, Uriz reached the Regional semi-finals in 2010.

Robert May, Midfielder, Asheville, NC

Robert May transfers into the Bulldog program from Charlotte. May is a native of Asheville and played his high school soccer for T.C. Roberson under Rob Wilcher, where he was a stand-out performer.  May scored 50 goals during his career with the Rams and helped the school win 86 matches and two conference titles. He played club soccer for HFC 90 Red and Jeremy Jordan. May was also a member of the North Carolina ODP team.

Quentin Reynolds, Defender, Apex, NC

Quentin Reynolds joins the Asheville program from Holly Springs HS where he played for head coach Davi Lanuti. He also played for the highly competitive FVAA Flash and Henry Gutierrez at the club level. Reynolds was a four-year member of the Honor Roll and won the Kappa Psi Scholar Award.

Patrick Phillip, Midfielder, Dripping Springs, TX

Patrick Phillip will come to UNC Asheville via Dripping Springs HS in Texas, just outside of Austin.  He played for head coach Brian Ormonde and earned All-District honors. Phillip played his club soccer for coach Steve Allison and Lonestar SC.  

Stabler Cochrane, Midfielder, Clemmons, NC

Stabler Cochrane enjoyed a standout career at West Forsyth HS where he played for head coach Scott Bilton. Cochrane earned All-Conference, All-Region and All-County honors his senior year. He played his club soccer for Scott Brittsan and a successful NC Fusion Elite team. Cochrane was a member of the National Honor Society and the Key Club at West Forsyth.
