ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville soccer team will look to break a frustrating three-game losing streak at ACC power Duke Tuesday night at Duke Soccer Field starting at 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs (3-9-3) lost a heart-breaking 3-2 decision to Campbell Saturday afternoon at Greenwood Field. Asheville was down 2-0 with less than 10 minutes left but got goals from David Parra and Jake Hagedorn to tie the match and seemingly go into overtime.
But Campbell scored with 14.7 seconds left in regulation to earn the Big South Conference win.
"We've lost some tough matches this year but Saturday was among the toughest," stated Bulldog coach Matt Kern. "Campbell out-played us for much of the day but we kept battling and thought we had the match headed to overtime. We just need to learn from this match, move on and get ready for Duke."
Asheville faces a Duke team that is also looking to end a losing streak. The Blue Devils (7-6-1) have lost two straight matches and fell at Boston College in overtime this weekend, 2-1.
"We're not catching Duke at a good time, but hopefully we will have some confidence from our game at North Carolina (a 2-1 overtime loss) earlier this month to build on," commented Kern. "It was a tough loss on Saturday but it's good to play again and see what we can do."
Asheville returns home on Saturday to face Liberty at Greenwood Field starting at 2:30 p.m.
