HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. - UNC Asheville junior men's soccer player Bobby Castro was named as a top performer recently by the United Soccer League after he scored two goals on Saturday for his summer league team, Triangle FC S20.
Castro scored both his team's goals in a 2-1 victory over South Atlantic Division foe Northern Virginia Royals. The win helps put Triangle FC in a tie for first place.
He opened the scoring in the 15th minute of play as he received a cross from the right side, beat a defender, and finished confidently. Later in the half, Castro took a pass at midfield, turned to beat the Royals defender, and passed the ball to the left of the 'keeper with the outside of his right foot to score his second of the game and the game-winner.
"Bobby is capable of playing any position on the field," Triangle FC Coach Pete Sadin said. "He produces anywhere; his strong leadership is a key to our success.
"Bobby has been a tremendous leader and contributor to this team. We would not be tied for first place [in the division] without him."
