The Bulldogs played the Phoenix last season in an exhibition contest and rallied for a 2-1 victory at Greenwood Field. Elon went on to win the Southern Conference Tournament in 2011 and advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Asheville has been training for close to a week and looks forward to playing a match.
"We've had good workouts so far," commented third-year coach Matt Kern. "Everyone is working hard and trying to get better with each day.
"Elon should be a great test for us," added Kern. "They were a good team last season but struggled during the regular season before they put together a great run in the Southern Conference Tournament. We'll know a little bit more about our team after tonight."
Asheville's second and final exhibition match is with Davidson Saturday afternoon at Greenwood Field starting at 2 p.m.
The Bulldogs open the regular season with five straight home matches. Asheville's first regular-season match is with Brevard on Aug. 25 at 2 p.m.
