Track and Field standout Sarah Gentry is this week's Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina Athlete of the Week.

Each week the school selects a BCBSNC Athlete of the Week upon their performance from the previous week's action.

This past weekend saw the UNC Asheville outdoor track and field team open 2013 season at Charlotte. Sarah opened the season in style as she won the 800 meters in a school-record time of 2:09.26. She beat out 97 other runners from throughout the country to win going away. Her time is a new school record that breaks a record that had been set in 2001 by Zola Davis.

Sarah is the defending Big South Conference champion in both the indoor and outdoor 800 meters. She also competed in the 1,500 meters for the first time in her career and posted a time of 4:40.58. Gentry finished ninth in the event.

Gentry and the Bulldogs are back in action this weekend (March 22-23) at the Benyon Catamount Classic at Western Carolina.
