ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Appalachian State scored twice in the second period and then held off a furious UNC Asheville charge in the third period as the Mountaineers slipped past the Bulldogs, 2-1 in men’s college exhibition soccer action Friday afternoon at Carolina Day Soccer Field.

Appalachian State scored two goals to take a 2-0 lead in the second period. Stephen Chapman took a pass from Patrick Harrow at 33:36 to score the Mountaineers first goal at 1-0.

The Apps made it 2-0 almost 20 minutes later off a free kick. Alex Herbst made a direct pass to Mason McCarter on a free kick. McCarter connected from 22 yards out at 52:37.
