ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Iman Mofi scored twice late in the first half as Clemson downed UNC Asheville 2-0 in exhibition men’s soccer action Saturday evening at Carolina Day Soccer Complex.

It was the final tune-up for the Bulldogs before the regular season and was a marked improvement for the Blue & White after losing to Charlotte, 7-0 on Wednesday.

Asheville had the first two shots of the game before the Tigers began to take control of the match. Senior goalkeeper Dan Jackson made two big saves to keep Clemson off the board.

Finally, the Tigers struck twice in the final 10 minutes of the half. Mofi tallied his first goal on a feed from TJ Casner at 34:56 for a 1-0 Clemson lead.

Five minutes later, Mofi scored off a rebound to put the Tigers on top 2-0.

Clemson held a 12-4 advantage in shots in the opening half. However, freshman Andrew Lawrence had two good shots for the Bulldogs that Tiger goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell pushed away.

In the second half, Clemson controlled possession as the Tigers had an 8-1 edge in shots, but Bulldog goalkeeper Zak Davis made three saves.

Following the match, the teams had a practice penalty kick round. The Bulldogs won that part of the match, 5-1. Jackson was brilliant for the Blue & White as he stopped Clemson’s first four shots.

UNC Asheville opens the 2014 season at Greenwood Field against USC Upstate on Friday, Aug. 29 at 5:30 p.m. The game will broadcast on the Big South Network.
