ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s soccer team opens the 2014 season when the Bulldogs host Chattanooga at Greenwood Field starting at 6 p.m. Admission is $5.

Fans can watch Friday’s match for free on the Big South Digital network under the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville has played one exhibition game and that was last Friday when the Bulldogs lost at Western Carolina, 1-0 on an own goal early in the match.

This will be Chattanooga’s first match of the year. The Lady Mocs went 5-13-0 last season but one of their wins was a 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs in Chattanooga. UTC rallied for two goals after Kennedy Garrett had scored for Asheville in the eighth minute.

Fifth-year head coach Michelle Demko is excited about the season opener.

"I am excited to open our 2014 season this Friday against Chattanooga. The players are looking good, playing well together and are anxious to start season,” stated Demko. “I anticipate an enormous amount of emotions that comes with a season opener, but once we settle in I think people will be able to see the work we have been doing over the course of this pre-season.

“Chattanooga is a team that will fight and compete. We will have to earn every battle on Friday,” added Demko. “We must remain disciplined in our team defending to prevent any counter attacks and huge risk takers attacking to allow our team's creativity to provide us opportunities in the final third. This is a great opportunity to set the tone for the rest of the season and allow our hard work to be seen."

Asheville returns eight starters from last year’s 6-11-2 squad. The Bulldogs’ six wins were the most for the program since the 2006 season.
