ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's soccer team hopes to make it two victories in a row when the Bulldogs host South Carolina State Sunday afternoon at Greenwood Field. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and will be video-streamed at www.uncabulldogs.com.
Asheville (1-6) has not played since a thrilling 2-1 victory over Francis Marion last Sunday. The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 at halftime but picked up goals from Mary Beale and Dana Sroka to record the victory. Goalkeeper Megan Dent made six saves in the win. It was the first victory for first-year Asheville head coach Michelle Demko.
South Carolina State is 4-4-1 on the season and lost to Charleston Southern on Tuesday, 2-1. The Bulldogs of SCSU set a school record with 10 victories last season. This will be the first meeting between the teams since the 2005 season. Asheville leads the all-time series, 4-0 with the Bulldogs capturing a 5-0 victory in 2005.
Sunday's match will be the final non-conference regular-season game of the year for Asheville. The Bulldogs open Big South Conference play this Friday against Radford starting at 4 p.m.
