ORANGEBURG, S.C. - After having their home match with South Carolina State postponed from Sunday afternoon to Monday afternoon and moved from Greenwood Field in Asheville to Oliver C. Dawson Stadium in Orangeburg, S.C., the Bulldogs dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bulldogs of SCSU in women's soccer action.
S.C. State's Tori Papp put the Bulldogs up in the 23rd minute when she took a cross from Brooke Ehinger and put it in the back of the net. Asheville's Hannah Jeske got the equalizer in the the 30th minute on an unassisted goal to tie the game at one goal apiece with 15 minutes until halftime.
Kaitlynn Cortez scored the game winner with only two minutes left in the first half to put S.C. State up 2-1 at the 43:18 mark. After recording an assist earlier in the match Ehinger scored an insurance goal early in the second half for the home-standing Bulldogs as S.C. State would shut out Asheville the rest of the way to earn the 3-1 victory.
With the win State improves to 5-4-1 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 1-7. UNC Asheville will next be in action on Friday when it opens up Big South Conference play with a 4 p.m. match against league foe Radford.
