LYNCHBURG, VA. - Liberty scored three goals in the second half to halt a UNC Asheville comeback as the Lady Flames recorded a 6-3 Big South Conference women's soccer victory over the Bulldogs Wednesday afternoon.

Asheville midfielder Leilani Halkiotis scored two goals in the match and helped the Bulldogs recover from a 2-0 and 3-2 deficit to forge a 3-3 tie at halftime.

However, the home team got a goal from Aimee Luurtsema in the 56th minute and then added two goals in the final eight minutes to earn the victory. Luurtsema would tie a Liberty school record with four goals in the match.

The Flames jumped ahead early at 7:40 when Luurtsema scored her first goal of the match for an early 1-0 lead. Madison Short would follow at 20:21 when she tapped in a cross to push the LU margin to 2-0.

Then Halkiotis took over. The junior tallied her third goal of the season when she connected on a shot from 25 yards out at the 23:19 mark to narrow the lead to 2-1.

Halkiotis tied the match up at 2-2 at 33:44 when she scored off a feed from Amanda Knapp.

Luurtsema tallied her second goal of the afternoon on a pass from Maria Owen to give the Flames a 3-2 lead at 35:24.
