ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Nine home matches highlights the 2011 UNC Asheville women's soccer schedule that was released today by second-year Bulldog coach Michelle Demko.

"I am pleased with our 2011 schedule. We have some familiar opponents, as well as some new opponents that will challenge us throughout the season," stated Demko. "We are fortunate to live in a part of the country where we do not have to travel far to find outstanding competition.  Our non-conference schedule is designed to prepare us for the strength of the Big South Conference.

"We essentially have our entire team back, so having this past year to train, develop  expectations and understand the coaching philosophy, I am looking forward to see how we respond as a team," added Demko.

The 2011 season begins at Southern Conference foe Davidson on Aug. 20. Asheville's home opener will come on Aug. 28 when the Bulldogs entertain Tennessee Tech from the Ohio Valley Conference. On Sept. 2, Demko's club welcomes Eastern Kentucky to Greenwood Field for a first-time meeting with the Colonels.

Asheville plays its next three games away from Greenwood Field against Southern Conference opponents.  The Bulldogs travel to Wofford (Sept. 4), Western Carolina (Sept. 9) and Appalachian State (Sept. 11).

The Bulldogs return home to battle South Carolina State (Sept. 18) and then journey to East Tennessee State (Sept. 25) before beginning Big South Conference play.

Asheville opens league action with a pair of road games in the state of Virginia. The Bulldogs play at VMI (Sept. 29) and Radford (Oct. 21).

The Bulldogs league home opener will be with Presbyterian College on Oct. 4. Asheville plays four of its last six matches of the regular season at Greenwood Field. They'll battle Coastal Carolina (Oct. 13) and Charleston Southern (Oct. 15) at home, followed by road matches at Gardner-Webb (Oct. 20) and Winthrop (Oct. 22) before finishing the regular season with home games vs. High Point (Oct. 27) and Liberty (Oct. 29).

The Big South Tournament will be held at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C. (Nov. 3-7).
