ASHEVILLE, N.C. - High Point scored two goals in each half as the Panthers downed UNC Asheville 4-0 in Big South Conference women's soccer action Thursday afternoon at Greenwood Field.

Katie Taber had a goal and an assist in the match, while Jacky Kessler had two assists for the Panthers. The victory was High Point's third straight and all have been by shutouts. The two-time defending Big South Conference champions improved their record to 8-8-3 overall and 6-1-2 in league play.

The loss was Asheville's third straight and dropped the Bulldogs record to 4-14-0 and 3-6-0 in BSC action.

High Point struck for two goals in a little over a minute of play to give the Panthers the goals they would need. Taber tallied her second goal of the season off a give-and-go pass from Kessler at 11:24 to put the Panthers in front, 1-0.

Kessler set up the next goal. She sent a pass to Kelli Jolene who connected from 10 yards out at 12:57 to pad the lead to 2-0.

The match settled down after that but the High Point defense bottled up the Bulldog offense for most of the first half. Asheville didn't get its first two shots until the final five minutes of the half.

The Bulldogs controlled the first part of the second half and just missed getting on the scoreboard when Amanda Knapp's partial breakaway was stopped by a diving HPU goalkeeper Andrea Ritchie in the 50th minute.

The Panthers increased the lead to 2-0 when Becca Hembra scored on a header off a cross from Taber at 57:-07.

High Point sealed the victory at 78:27 when Cary Ann Parrish scored on a breakaway at 78:27. Jenny Butler was awarded an assist on the goal.

The visitors out-shot the home team 13-6, including a 9-4 edge in the second half. The Bulldogs had three corner kicks to two for HPU.

Asheville will finish the regular season at home on Saturday against Big South Conference foe Liberty at Noon. The Bulldogs will honor their seniors prior to the match.  High Point finishes the regular season at Presbyterian College Saturday night at 7 p.m.
