ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Geena Swentik scored twice to Liberty to a 3-0 Big South Conference win over UNC Asheville in a Big South Conference women's soccer contest at Greenwood Field Saturday afternoon.
The win improves Liberty's record to 8-7-3 overall and 5-4-1 in the Big South Conference. The Bulldogs lost for the fourth straight time and fell to 4-15-0 and 3-7-0 in the league.
The Flames dominated the first half as they out-shot the home team, 8-2. Liberty got on the board first when Dawn Elmers sent Aimee Luurtsema on a breakaway. Luurtsema scored at 18:09 to put the Flames in front for good at 1-0.
Liberty expanded its lead 12 minutes later when Swentik scored her first goal of the match on a header at 30:43
Bulldog goalkeeper Heather Muller made three saves in the opening half to keep Liberty at bay.
In the second half, Asheville showed some life on offense and had five shots. Kaitlyn Eckert had three shots for the Bulldogs.
Liberty sealed the win with a goal from Swentik off an assist from Luurtsema. Swentik hit a blast from 30 yards out to give the visitors a 3-0 lead.
Both teams will play next in the Big South Conference Tournament at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C. next weekend.
