BOONE, N.C. – Samantha Childress scored twice in the second half as homestanding Appalachian State downed UNC Asheville 2-0 in a non-conference women’s soccer game at ASU Soccer Stadium Thursday night.
The Bulldogs (2-2-0) out-shot the Apps 6-3 in the first half before ASU tallied twice in the second half to record the victory.
Childress scored at the 53:41 mark of the second half to give the Mountaineers (3-2-0) the lead for good off a pass from Julia Holz.
Childress scored her second goal off another feed from Holz at 79:44 to seal the victory.
Shenny Lenhart had three of Asheville’s nine shots in the match. She just missed scoring in the 81st minute when her shot hit the cross bar.
Junior goalkeeper Heather Muller made four saves for the Bulldogs in the match.
UNC Asheville is back in action again this Sunday afternoon in Chattanooga when the Bulldogs take on the Lady Mocs at 2 p.m.
