ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s soccer team helped make Thanksgiving for families a little sweeter last month with their work in the kitchen.

More than half of the team volunteered at Asheville Middle School right before Thanksgiving to help make pies for students to sell to families. The Bulldogs went in two shifts to help with the process.

Each member of the team was put at a station to help the students at Asheville Middle make the pies. One station was to work on the crust and another was to create the filling for the pies.

Junior goalkeeper Heather Muller really enjoyed helping out.

“I've made a few pies before, but never completely from scratch.  It was some of the students first time making pie, so it was an interesting experience,” stated Muller. “Overall, we all had a lot of fun as it was something new that we had never done as a team before.

“We really enjoyed talking to the students about playing soccer, and they shared with us about what they were learning in class,” added Muller. “It was a great event for all of us and brought back memories of being in Middle School.”
