ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Ten home matches at Greenwood Field and away contests at Appalachian State and Chattanooga highlights the 2013 UNC Asheville women’s soccer schedule. The schedule was announced today by head coach Michelle Demko.

"I am excited about the upcoming fall season.  We had more growth this past spring than we had in any other season since I have been here at Asheville,” stated Demko. “The players are demanding more from each other and this program.  They are hungry to succeed and determined, more than ever, to have this fall be a turning point in the program.”

Asheville plays one exhibition match and it will be at home against Charlotte on Aug. 17. The Bulldogs open the regular season with two straight home matches at Greenwood Field. Demko’s club hosts Eastern Kentucky on Aug. 23 from the Ohio Valley Conference and USC Upstate from the Atlantic Sun on Aug. 29.

The Bulldogs hit the road for three consecutive matches to start the month of September. Asheville travels to Wofford (Sept. 1), Appalachian State (Sept. 5) and Chattanooga (Sept. 8). The Blue & White return home for a non-conference match with Mars Hill (Sept. 11) before road matches at Alabama State (Sept. 13) and South Carolina State (Sept. 17).

Asheville opens Big South Conference play with four straight league matches at Greenwood Field. The Bulldogs host Campbell (Sept. 25), Presbyterian College (Sept. 28), Liberty (Oct. 2) and Charleston Southern (Oct. 5).  Two league road matches follow the four-game homestand as Asheville plays at Winthrop (Oct. 9) and Radford (Oct. 12).

The Bulldogs finish October with five regular-season matches against league foes. Asheville is home for two of them against High Point (Oct. 16) and Longwood (Oct. 26). Demko’s club heads to Coastal Carolina (Oct. 19), VMI (Oct. 23) and Gardner-Webb (Oct. 29) to complete the regular season.

The quarterfinals of the Big South Championships will be held on campus sites of the top four finishers on Nov. 2, while the semifinals and championship match will be held at Coastal Carolina on Nov. 8 and 10, respectively.

“There is a higher standard and commitment level among the entire program which gave us significant wins over Citadel and App State this past spring,” declared Demko. “Our non-conference schedule has us playing three new out- of-state opponents with Chattanooga, South Carolina State and Alabama State. I wanted to play some new teams in our non-conference schedule to prepare us for the competition we will face with our Big South opponents.

“I do not want us to become comfortable playing the same non conference teams year after year so this will be a good challenge for us,” added Demko.
