ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s soccer team completes its season Tuesday night when the Bulldogs play at Gardner-Webb starting at 7 p.m.
Tuesday’s match is scheduled to be broadcast live on the Big South Digital Network and can be seen for free under the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.
Asheville (6-10-2, 2-6-2 BSC) looks to end the season on a winning note. The Bulldogs have already posted the most wins by an Asheville team since the 2006 team won 10 matches. A win on Tuesday would give the Blue & White its most points in league play since that same 2006 campaign.
The Bulldogs are coming off a disappointing 4-0 loss at home to Longwood. The loss to the Lancers, coupled with a CSU victory eliminated Asheville from having a chance to make this year’s Big South Tournament.
The Bulldogs and Runnin’ Bulldogs (3-14-1, 1-9-0 BSC) have gone to overtime the past two seasons. Gardner-Webb rallied from a 3-0 deficit in 2011 to edge Asheville in overtime, 4-3, the last time the teams played in Boiling Springs.
Michelle Demko’s club got revenge last year at Greenwood Field. The Bulldogs trailed 2-1 with just seconds left in regulation when Kaitlyn Eckert scored the tying goal off a free kick. Asheville picked up the overtime win on a goal from Paige Trent late in the first overtime period.
Kennedy Garrett leads Asheville in scoring with four goals and 10 points. Shenny Lenhart has tallied twice and added two assists for six points.
