ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will end the regular season at Greenwood Field with two matches this weekend. The first is against defending Big South Conference champion High Point on Thursday starting at 3 p.m. Thursday's match will be video-streamed and can be seen for a small fee at www.uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville will complete the regular-season on Saturday with a home match vs. Liberty at Noon. Prior to the match, the Bulldogs will honor their five seniors playing in their final home match.

Thursday's match is pivotal for both Asheville and High Point. The Bulldogs (4-13-0, 3-5-0 BSC) are battling to get into the Big South Conference Tournament next week in Charleston, S.C. The top eight finishers in the league standings get into the tourney. Asheville sits in eighth place in the league standings, just above Coastal Carolina (2-5-1). Both teams have two matches left and both are crucial.

"We win both our matches then we're in, and we don't have to worry about what Coastal Carolina or anybody else does," commented second-year coach Michelle Demko. "We're just trying to take one match at a time.

"High Point has a good team. They've won the Big South championship the past two years and they know how to win," added Demko. "However, we've shown a great deal of improvement this year and would love to get into the conference tournament and see what we can do."

Sophomore forward Amanda Knapp leads Asheville in scoring with six goals and 16 points. Junior Ferriss Roberts has been hot lately. She's scored a goal in three consecutive matches and now has five goals on the season.

The Bulldogs are going to try and re-group after a tough week on the road. Asheville lost at Gardner-Webb last Thursday night, 4-3. The Bulldogs led 3-0 early in the second half, only to see the Runnin' Bulldogs rally for the win. On Saturday, Asheville went to Winthrop and led 1-0 on a goal from Roberts but the Eagles tied it up 30 seconds later and went on to win, 3-1.

On Saturday, Asheville will honor its seniors prior to the match. The seniors being honored will be Carolyn O'Brien, Mary Kate Tucker, Emma Sell-Goodhand, Leilani Halkiotis and Frances Staelin.
