GREENVILLE, S.C. - Southern Conference power Furman scored six goals in the first half en route to a 6-0 victory over UNC Asheville in women's soccer action Thursday night at Stone Soccer Stadium.

The Bulldogs (1-5-0) played the 9th-ranked Paladins in the South Region even in the second half as they did not allow a goal.

"This game is difficult to swallow," stated Asheville coach Michelle Demko. "We played our most complete game of the season, outside our own 18 yard box. We dug ourselves into a pretty big hole in the first half due to individual mistakes but as a group we took a step forward. Our possession was quite good, as well as our movement off the ball. The score does not indicate how close the teams matched up."

Paladin goalkeeper Rose Hull was tested several times late in the first half, including a diving save and a stop on a point-blank shot from Asheville's Amanda Dailor at the top of the six-yard box.

Jamie Alexander led Furman with two goals as Furman improved to 5-1-0 on the season. The Paladins scored in the 8th minute to take a 1-0 lead and tallied five more times over the next 30 minutes.

The home team had a 25-10 edge in shots over the Bulldogs. Asheville goalkeeper Heather Muller had seven saves in the match.

The Bulldogs are back in action this Sunday when they host Wofford at Greenwood Field starting at noon. The match will be video-streamed and can be seen at www.uncabulldogs.com.
