CHARLESTON, S.C. - Toni Lashley scored three goals to lo lead homestanding Charleston Southern to a 5-2 Big South Conference win over UNC Asheville Saturday at CSU Soccer Field.


The Bulldogs (3-13-0, 1-7-0 BSC) lost despite out-shooting the Buccaneers, 32-25. Kennedy Garrett and Amanda Knapp scored for Asheville.


The loss was the fifth straight for the Bulldogs. CSU improved to 6-8-1 overall and 4-4 in the Big South.


For the fifth consecutive game, Asheville opened the scoring. In the 18th minute, Amanda Knapp sent a pass to Garrett who was able to get the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 Bulldog lead at 18:01.


The Buccaneers countered with three goals to take a 3-1 halftime lead. Lashley scored her first goal of the day at 27:31 to tie the match at 1-1. Goals from Ashley Lowdermilk and Gina Cox put the home team in front for good at 3-1.


CSU held a 16-14 advantage in shots in the first half and had six corner kicks to two for Asheville.


Lashley scored her second goal of the match at 51:19 to pad the lead to 4-1. Amanda Knapp answered for the Bulldogs at 52:04 to cut the Bucs margin to 4-2. She scored off a feed from leading scorer for Asheville, Kaitlyn Eckert.


Lashley finished the scoring on a breakaway goal at 75:58 to make the final margin 5-2.


The Bulldogs dominated the second half as they out-shot the Bucs, 18-9. CSU goalkeeper Caitlyn Cody was forced to make seven saves.


UNC Asheville returns home to play its final two matches at Greenwood Field. The Bulldogs host Gardner-Webb Thursday at 3 p.m. and then celebrate Senior Day on Saturday against Winthrop starting at 2:3o p.m.
