Editors Note: With the 2013-14 school year behind us, UNC Asheville's student-athletes will be providing us write-ups to allow everyone to get to know them a little better. Today we meet women's soccer player, Amanda Dailor.
Amanda Dailor is a rising senior midfielder on the UNC Asheville Women’s Soccer Team. Graduating in May of 2015, Amanda is pursuing a degree in Health and Wellness Promotion. Hoping to go to graduate school, she is aspiring to become an occupational or physical therapist.
When she isn’t scoring goals on the soccer field, Amanda is an involved member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at UNC Asheville. She said she joined SAAC because, “I like the idea of being “in” on what’s going on in the whole athletic department. I also like the feeling of being able to have a say in what goes on, while being able to represent the women’s soccer team here at UNC Asheville.” She was a vital part in SAAC’s winning of the Homecoming Lipsync competition, saying that it was amazing to see a group of student-athletes put something together so well under pressure. Next year, she would love it if SAAC continued to improve in all of the events it is in involved in throughout the year. Continuing to make things better for student-athletes on campus is the priority; all while being involved more with the community. Outside of SAAC, she loves hiking, running, watching Netflix, listening to music, reading, and making Disneyland trips (when she’s back in her hometown in California).
Amanda has also done a wonderful job representing UNC Asheville well in the community. She has coached at Asheville Catholic School and Asheville City Schools, helped kids read at Children’s First, helped kids with homework after school, worked soccer clinics, and has worked tables and run concession stands at soccer tournaments. UNC Asheville is proud to call her a Bulldog. She chose to attend UNC Asheville because of, “the whole environment. I have never seen a place quite like this. It’s beautiful. The changes in season and the people are amazing. Being from California, it is my home away from home. I’ve met some great people and have made life-long friends.”
This summer, Amanda will be taking a summer class, while completing an internship at Carolina Pediatrics. During the internship, she will be involved with various aspects of Occupational and Physical Therapy. A fun fact about her is that she loves to sing… Even though she may not be as good of a singer as she is a soccer player, singing makes her happy. She’s also obsessed with anything related to Disney. Make sure to stop by Greenwood Field in the fall for Amanda Dailor’s final season as a UNC Asheville Bulldog!
