CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s track and field team set two records on Friday to highlight action at the Charlotte 49er Classic.


Kassandra Pierre competed in the 400 hurdles. She qualified for Saturday’s finals with the fourth best time in the heat and set a school record in the process. She posted a time of 1:03.20.


Senior Corey McClintock set a new school record in the hammer throw. Her toss of 48.13 meters allowed her to finish in seventh place in the event against a very strong field.


The men’s team had some highlights in field events on Friday. Kurt Hibert placed fourth in the hammer throw with a throw of 5.6.05 meters.


John Ballard took seventh in the javelin with a throw of 50.77 meters.


Both teams will have a full day of events on Saturday and will start competition at Irwin Belk Stadium starting at 10 a.m.
