HIGH POINT, N.C. – Both the UNC Asheville men’s and women’s track and field teams posted some impressive results on Friday in the first day of the VertKlasse Meeting at High Point University.
The women’s team picked up some solid results in distance events. Kelsie Rubino took fifth in the 1,500 meters as she posted a time of 4:43.49.
In the 5000 meters, Asheville had two finishes in the top eight. Erin Dalton came in sixth at a time of 18:27.76. Kasey Briggs finished eighth at 18:35.46.
The Bulldogs also had two finishes in the top nine in the 3000 meters steeplechase. Scarlett Beamon finished fifth at 12:09.60, while Katie Gamble took ninth with a time of 12:42.58.
The men’s team had highlights both in distance and field events.
John Bellard finished fifth in the high jump (1.79 meters) and sixth in the javelin (52.77 meters).
Brent Schouler came in 11th in the 3000 meters steeplechase with a time of 10:14.17. Skyler Winchester finished 13th in the 5000 meters as he posted a time of 15:39.22.
Kurt Hibert took 10th in the shot put with a throw of 13.21 meters.
