UNC Asheville Track & Field Opens Season in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened the 2012 season this weekend at the Charlotte 49er Classic with some solid results.

Sophomore Milan Ristic got off to a good start of the outdoor season with a fourth place finish in the 110 Hurdles against a very strong field as he posted a time of 14.26. His premlinary time was 14.20 which is a new school record. He also competed in the 200 meters and set a new school record with a time of 21.62.

"I was really pleased how we competed this weekend in Charlotte," stated Asheville coach Jesse Norman. "This was a great way to start the season. There were a lot of personal bests, and we're really making progress as a program."

On the women's side, Meredith Foster set a new school record came in fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters. Ashlei Clodfelter picked up a fifth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 38.90 meters.

Senior Emily Pineda took 11th against a tough field with a throw of 38.48 meters. Her throw was the fifth best all-time in the discus.

Sarah Gentry took a fourth place finish in the 800 meters as she ran the event in a time of 2:11.64. 

Melanie Kulesz was in the 1500 meters at a time of 4:47. Kasey Briggs ran the 5,000 meters at 18:18 and right behind her was Clair Powell at 18:20.

Molly Harkavy came in eighth in the 400 Hurdles at a time of 1:05. Her time was the fourth best in school history.

On the men's side, Kurt Hibert had a throw of 37.96 meters in the discus.

Delano Loritts competed in both the long jump (5.77 meters) and triple jump (12.89 meters).

Both teams are back in action next Saturday at the Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic at Western Carolina.
