Track & Field Teams Travel to Cullowhee on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams head to Cullowhee on Saturday for the 2012 Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic Saturday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

The meet is set to begin at 9:45 am with the men's hammer and the women's javelin with field events running through 4:15 pm when the women's triple jump starts. Running events are slated for noon with the women's 3000m steeple chase. The final events of the day will be the women's and men's 4x400m relays with the women's beginning at 5:35 pm.

Sixteen teams will participate in the meet as UNC Asheville and Western Carolina will be joined by Kent State, Furman, Wofford, Winthrop and USC Upstate.

"We're looking forward to this meet," commented Asheville coach Jesse Norman. "I thought both teams had solid results last week and we want to keep building on those results this week and peak by conference tournament time."

The Bulldog teams opened the season last weekend in Charlotte at the 49er Classic.

Sophomore Milan Ristic got off to a good start of the outdoor season with a fourth place finish in the 110 Hurdles against a very strong field as he posted a time of 14.26. His preliminary time was 14.20 which is a new school record. He also competed in the 200 meters and set a new school record with a time of 21.62.

On the women's side, Meredith Foster set a new school record came in fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters. Ashlei Clodfelter picked up a fifth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 38.90 meters.

Senior Emily Pineda took 11th against a tough field with a throw of 38.48 meters. Her throw was the fifth best all-time in the discus.

Sarah Gentry took a fourth place finish in the 800 meters as she ran the event in a time of 2:11.64.
