CONWAY, S.C. - Ashlei Clodfelter and Melanie Kulesz each posted platform finishes to highlight UNC Asheville's performance on the first day of the Big South Conference Track and Field Championships at Coastal Carolina on Thursday.
Clodfelter finished in third place in the javelins with a throw of 39.58 meters. She earned all-conference honors with the third place finish.
Kulesz came in third in the 10,000 meters as she finished with a time of 36:56.61. Finishing in eighth place and getting Asheville a point was Adrian Etheridge as she had a time of 37:42.
The Bulldogs earned 14 points on the first day of competition and are in fourth place.
"We got off to a great start today," commented Bulldog coach Jesse Norman. "I don't think we've had this many points on the first day. I'm really pleased at how much we've improved this season. We hope to get some points and some more all-conference honors over the next two days."
On the men's side, Kurt Hibert earned some points for the Bulldogs in the hammer throw. He had a throw of 52.37 meters and took fifth place for Asheville.
Freshman Kevin Paridise just missed getting a point for Asheville in the 10,000 meters as he came in ninth with a time of 31:53.
