ROCK HILL, S.C. – Kurt Hibert finished in third place in the discus to highlight the UNC Asheville track and field team’s performance on what was supposed to be the final day of the Big South Conference Championships at Belk Stadium on the campus of Winthrop University.


With inclement weather in the Rock Hill area, the meet will finish on Monday when three events finish their completion. Awards will also be announced on Monday.


The Bulldog women’s team is in eighth place with 33 points, while the men’s squad is in ninth place with 12 points.


Hibert took third in the discus with a throw of 46.12 meters and earned a spot on the platform with his third-place finish.


The Asheville women’s team picked up three points in the 1500 meters as Rachel Carson took seventh with a time of 4:50.99, while Kelsie Rubino came in eighth at a time of 4:53.25.


Alyssa Lashway took fifth in the 800 meters at a time of 2:20.44. Kassandra Pierre finished sixth in the 400 hurdles as she posted a time of 1:03.


Asheville’s 4x400 women’s relay team earned a sixth-place finish as the quartet finished with a time of 3:54.74.


The men’s 4x400 relay team took eighth place and got a point for the Bulldogs.  They finished with a time of 3:26.78.


In the 5000 meters on the women’s side, Asheville just missed getting points as Sarah Heisner (18:12) took ninth, followed by Adrian Etheridge (18:16) in 10th. Erin Dalton came in 14th (18:25).


Skyler Winchester took 14th in the 5000 meters at a time of 15:27.
