LYNCHBURG, Va. – Emma Bussard captured the Big South Conference championship in the 3000 meter steeplechase on Friday at the league’s championship meet at Liberty University.
The senior distance runner set a Big South and school record in the event by winning easily with a time of 10:38.77.
The Bulldog women’s team had some other big highlights on the day, as well.
Junior Meredith Foster placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.63 meters.
Ashlei Clodfelter took third in the javelin with a throw of 42.24 meters.
Senior runner Sarah Gentry qualified for two events on Saturday. She qualified in the 800 meters at a time of 2:20.
She was also one of three runners to qualify for the 1500 meters. Gentry posted a time of 4:51.98. Kelsie Rubino qualified with a time of 4:51.01, while Erin Dalton made Saturday’s field at 4:54.
On the men’s side, Milan Ristic qualified for two sprinting events on Saturday. He’ll be the one to beat in the 110 hurdles as he had the fastest qualifying time at 14.15.
Milan also qualified in the 200 meters as he posted a time of 21.11.
The Bulldogs came close to earning some points in the 10,000 meters as Jeremy Gower finished 10th (32:48), while Kevin Paradise came in 14th place (33:27).
Saturday’s action begins at 10 a.m. with the men’s discus.
