Haake Takes Third in Javelin at Big South Conference Meet

LEXINGTON, VA. - Senior Simon Haake earned a spot on the platform on Thursday with a third-place finish in the javelin on Thursday at the Big South Conference Championships held at VMI.

Haake's best throw was 67.68 meters and earned the UNC Asheville men's team six points on the first day of the meet. Haake finished fourth at last year's meet.

Also scoring for Asheville was freshman Milan Ristic in the long jump. He had a leap of 6.96 meters and finished in seventh place as he picked up two points for the Bulldogs.

The women's team had several strong perfomances but couldn't get a point on Thursday. Clair Powell finished ninth in the 10,000 meters with a time of 39:42.

Action will get underway at 9 a.m. on Friday in the second day of the Big South Championships. The meet will conclude on Saturday.
