Bussard posted a time of 10:58 and earned a spot on the platform for the Bulldogs. It was the first points scored by Asheville in the three-day meet.
On the men's side, Milan Ristic picked up two points for Asheville in the long jump with a seventh-place finish. His best jump of 6.91 meters put him in position to get points for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs had a good day for both teams as Asheville has several participants earn spots in Saturday's finals.
Senior sprinter Natalie Pearson qualified for the 100 meters and 200 meters by finishing first in each race. Pearson had a time of 11.80 in the 100 and 24.30 in the 200.
Sarah Gentry qualified for the finals of the 800 by finishing in second with a time of 2:18. Melanie Kulesz finished fifth in the 1500 and qualified for Saturday's finals at a time of 4:49.
Sam Maynard qualified for both the 800 and 1500 meters on Friday. He had a time of 1:56 in the 800 and 4:08 in the 1500.
Ristic qualified in the 110 Hurdles with a time of 14.95.
The Big South Conference meet will finish up on Saturday. It will start at 9 a.m. and finish up around 4 p.m.
