ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville Track and Field program will have two representatives compete at the NCAA Round Division I East Preliminary Round meet, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind. on the campus of the University of Indiana.
Senior sprinter Natalie Pearson and senior javelin thrower Simon Haake will make the trip to Bloomington and hope to qualify for the national meet in Des Moines, Iowa, June 8-11. Pearson will compete in both the 100 and 200 meters. Haake will take part in the javelin.
Pearson made it to the nationals last year in the 200 meters and finished 17th nationally. She hopes to make it two events this year.
"I feel like I'm getting faster and faster and hopefully that will continue this weekend," stated Pearson.
"I'm hoping I can get off some good throws in the javelin this weekend," commented Haake. "Both Natalie and I have been working hard over the past few weeks and are both excited about our chances."
Both live video streaming and live results will be available during all three days of competition, on the IUHoosiers.com website.
Thursday's video streaming will begin at 3:30 p.m., Friday's video streaming will begin at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday's video streaming will begin at 6 p.m.
The top 12 qualifiers in each event will then move on to the 2011 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.
