WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The UNC Asheville Women's Distance Medley team set a school and Big South record and finished in first place to highlight the Bulldogs performance on the first day of the Big South Conference Indoor Championships held here on Thursday.
The foursome of Kelsie Rubino, Anna Gelbach, Sarah Gentry and Melanie Kulesz earned 10 points for the Bulldogs and blitzed the field with a time of 12:05 as Asheville picked up its first 10 points of the championship.
Other highlights from the day came from junior sprinter Milan Ristic. He qualified for Friday's finals in the 60-meter hurdles and the 60 meters. Ristic ran the second fastest time in the hurdles with a time of 8.13. He also had the second fastest time in the 60 meters at 6.87. That time sets another school record for Ristic in this event. It's the third he's set a record this year in the 60 meters.
Sarah Gentry and Alyssa Lashway both qualified in the 800 meters. Gentry posted the second best time at 2:18.05, while Lashway qualified with a time of 2:20.41.
Erin Dalton placed sixth in the 3000 meters as she posted a time of 10:18.54.
The final day of the championships is on Friday as action will begin at 10 a.m.
