ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men’s and women’s track and field team will be back in action this weekend at High Point when the Bulldogs participate in the VertKlasse Meeting.
The two-day meet begins Friday at noon. Running events begin at 3:30 on Friday and the performance section begins at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Asheville was scheduled to take part in the Raleigh Relays last weekend but sickness throughout the team made the Bulldogs back out of the event.
“We’re looking forward to getting back and competing,” commented Bulldog coach Jesse Norman. “Everyone appears to be healthy and we’re anxious to go to High Point and see where we are a few weeks before our conference meet.”
Norman’s teams competed two weeks ago in the Charlotte 49er Classic. The Bulldogs set two school records during the Classic.
Kassandra Pierre set a school record in the 400 meter hurdles on the first day of the meet. The record lasted just one day as she finished fourth in the event with a record-breaking time of 1:03.07, bettering Friday’s mark of 1:03.20.
Pierre competed in the 100 meters and posted the second fastest time in school history with a time of 11.14 meters.
Another school record came from Meredith Ristic in the high jump. Her leap of 1.70 meters placed her in third place and broke her own mark.
Scarlett Beamon posted a time of 7:35.45 in the 2000 meters steeplechase and finished in fourth place against a strong field.
On the men’s side, Brent Schouler came in seventh in the 2000 steeplechase as he had a time of 6:32.05.
Skyler Winchester took fifth in the 3000 meters as he had a time of 8:41.29.
Both men’s and women’s 4x800 relay team posted impressive finishes and time
The UNC Asheville 4x800 relay team came in fourth place at a time of 8:01.59, while the women’s team took fifth at 9:42.56.
Patrick Osborne came in 15th in the 800 meters as he posted a time of 1:56.68.
Argia Gibson took 10th in the triple jump at 11.14 meters.
