ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Freshman Brett Landau won in straight sets at #6 flight to give UNC Asheville a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Division II power Augusta State Monday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.


The Bulldogs (3-1) won their third straight match but had to rally for the win after losing the doubles point.


Asheville was able to get straight sets victories from the Bulldogs top two players in Adrian Langeard and Matt Waissen.


The Jaguars (3-2) took a 3-2 lead was as Asheville's Daniel Kripak and Alex Croker lost in three sets to Victor Guimaraes and Romain Brunie.


But the Bulldogs rallied in the fifth and sixth flights. John Schubel won at #5 over Gustavo D'Ascenizi, 6-0, 6-3 to tie the match at 5-5.


Landau dominated at #6 flight with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Gustav Anderson.


Asheville is in action at home this Sunday afternoon when the Bulldogs host UNC Greensboro starting at 3 p.m.
