ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team opens Big South Conference play on Friday afternoon when the Bulldogs take on Liberty at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown starting at 1 p.m. Admission is free.


The Bulldogs are off to their best start in 10 years with a 5-3 record but they'll get a stern challenge from the Flames. Liberty is 7-1 on the season and opened Big South Conference play with an impressive 7-0 victory over Longwood on Wednesday.


Asheville had its two-game winning streak snapped at East Carolina on Tuesday as the Pirates won the rain-shortened match, 4-0.


The Bulldogs have been getting great singles play throughout their lineup this season. Senior Adrien Langeard is 6-1 on the year and finally a lost singles match at East Carolina on Tuesday. He's been playing at #1 singles this season. John Schubel is 5-1 at #5 flight. The Bulldogs are 29-16 (.644) in singles matches as a team.
