ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men’s tennis team opens its fall season when the Bulldog netters take part in the Jeff Frank Invitational at Davidson College on Saturday and Sunday.

First-year coach Tom Hand has been working his team hard in the preseason and looks forward to playing some matches this weekend.

“We graduated some pretty good players last spring, so it’s important for our young guys to get some experience right away,” explained Hand. “This tournament at Davidson should be a great chance to get some experience this fall.”

The cupboard isn’t bare as Asheville returns five lettermen from last year’s club. The Bulldogs welcome back juniors’ Will Goldberg and John Schubel plus sophomores’ Alex Croker, Daniel Kripak and Brett Landau.

Hand is excited about the newcomers on Asheville’s roster this year. They include Reid Dillon (Charlotte, N.C.), Thomas Orestis-Panoulas (Greece) and Josh Swindler (Clemmons, N.C.).

“We’ve got a talented team. All we need is some more experience,” commented Hand. “Our future is bright with these young men.”
