ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team hits the road this weekend for a pair of crucial Big South Conference matches.
The Bulldogs, unbeaten in Big South Conference matches at 3-0, play at Liberty Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. and then meet defending conference champion Radford on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Highlanders are ranked 73rd in the nation and are a perfect 5-0 in league play this season.
Asheville (10-7, 3-0 BSC) is coming off a hard-fought 4-0 victory over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday. The match was shortened due to rain. The Bulldogs won the doubles point but had to work hard in singles as they picked up two victories in three sets.
"We're getting everyone's best shot with the success we're having," commented Bulldog coach Lise Gregory. "We've steadily improved as the season has progressed and are doing a nice job of winning those three-set matches that makes the difference in winning 5-2 or losing 4-3.
"These are some important matches this weekend but we just want to keep getting better and better as we get closer to the Big South Conference tournament (April 19-21)," added Gregory.
UNC Asheville will host the 2012 Big South Conference Tennis Championships on April 19-21 at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown and ARC South. Admission will be free.
