ROCK HILL, S.C. – Sophomore Adrien Langeard earned a pair of victories on Saturday against Winthrop, earning a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 singles win and a 9-8 doubles victory with teammate Thomas Rees, but the Eagles won every other match on the day to earn a 6-1 victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.
Sergey Belov defeated Matt Waissen, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 1 singles while Dejon Bivens defeated Nicolai Nonnenbroich, 6-4, 6-4, in No. 2 singles competition. Langeard won the No. 3 singles for the Blue & White over Liran Levy of Winthrop.
The Eagles’ Guy Kubi defeated Ryan Matthews (6-3, 6-1) in No. 4, Nadav Ruppin defeated Jonas Brobeck (6-2, 6-3) in No. 5 and Yuta Hirokawa defeated Thomas Rees (6-1, 6-4) in the No. 6 singles.
In doubles play the team of Belov and Levy won an 8-6 decision over Broback and Waissen while Kubi and Ruppin defeated Nonnenbroich and Nathan White 8-2 to earn the doubles point. Langeard and Rees defeated Bivens and Hirokawa 9-8 in No. 3 doubles for Asheville.
With the loss the Bulldogs have now dropped two in a row and five out of their last six. On the season Asheville is now 7-9 with an 0-3 mark in Big South Conference play.
The Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.
